Deepavali as celebrated from Dhanatrayodashi (ashwayuja krishna trayodashi) onwards till, Kartika tritiya is the most glamorous festival among all celebrations. On dhana trayodashi people buy gold and other precious articles as a sign of increased prosperity from then onwards day by day. Usually gambling is prohibited by shastras, it leads to sin. But on Dhanatrayodashi no sin is incurred by gambling, a symbolic win on this day indicates a profitable year.
Ashwayuja Amavasya Deepavali: this day evening Mahalaxmi is prayed in various forms. Traders pray their accounts book ,close all their dealings and make a fresh start. This day is celebrated with gait and pomp with all relatives. Sweets, gold ornaments, lights, crackers light up the entire country to a huge celebrative mood, refreshing all and everyone.
Bali Pratipada: This day is very auspicious and any work undertaken on this day before evening definitely results in success. This day an oil bath gives rejuvenation and disappearance of all diseases. Lord Vaman appeared on this day sent Bali to Patal Loka and blesses him with the seat of Indra in the next manvantara cycle. This marks the new year for salivahan saka, vikram saka. Offering many deepas (lights) on this day in avali (rows) gives immense punya.
Yama Dwitiya: On this day Yama gave classic sermon on sanctity of brother-sister relationship. He preached his sister Yamuna that elder brother is like a father to a sister, there should not be any sexual inclinations towards each other, this marks the highest sanctity in civilization. Instead he should look for an able groom and hand over his sister in marriage. This day sisters pray for long life of brothers, and invite them to their houses and offer all sweet preparations
Bhagini Tritiya: This day brothers bring their sisters to their own house and celebrate with offering her clothes , sweets, gold, and other things of honour .On this day Yamuna prayed Yama for good progeny and healthy married life.
Dwitiya is a bhadra tithi that keeps everything safe. Investments on this day keeps wealth steady. Tritiya is a jaya tithi and to obtain success this day is very apt for gains etc.
Thus Deepavali is a string of festivals where Mahalaxmi literally takes a tour of the places where she is worshipped, and the effect of glory, prosperity, and wealth and happiness is seen at every doorstep that invites her a with a lamp, and lamps and rows of lamps. Deep (lamp) Avali (rows).

Tamoyogya has no happiness, he cannot enjoy, his swaroopa itself is dukhmaya, so he is jealous of others happiness ...
In advaita khandana, i.e. khandan of nirguna [attribute-less God ] acharya says, when you hate somebody, and cannot stop him, confront him, but still want to denigrate him, best is to denounce whatever he has, or does best .. this is KALINGA neeti .. so when LORD is full of beauty, declare him as NIRGUNA, having no shape size beauty etc ..it is not PHILOSOPHY, but it is hate towards the NARAYANA .. because tamo is not beautiful and hence he says there is nothing called beauty at all .. this is hate talk !
Similarly some so declare festivals, the means of enjoyment as waste and useless fruitless or should not happen.
Deepawali should be celebrated to the fullest!!!

ReplyDeleteWhy burst crackers on Diwali? Crackers are burst with lot of noise in the night to drive away Alakshmi. Then on Amavasya, Lakshmi Devi is welcomed at home.

EVERY ASPECT of CULTURE is about INCREASING LONGEVITY , prosperity, saubhagya, happiness ... and by being miser NS minded [ thinking more of wastages rather than OPULENCE ] is itself a great HURDLE and spoilsport in HAPPINESS such an attitude can never give MOXA
LAXMI brings SAUBHAGYA .. YAMA gives LONGEVITY [removes apamrutyu yoga]. INDRA gives PROSPERITY , BALI gives Good luck . [ he stops your fortunes being taken away by RAKSHAASA ] /// there is ALAXMI uchchatan .. our entire source of misery is PRESENCE of ALAXMI in our house ... not any of our actions or the every bad luck is ALaXMI .. so kick her out by noise brightness pomp , [ gloom dullness uneasiness miserly attitude, udaseenata all these are ALAXMI ]
SO, CELEBRATE DIWALI!!!
Whatever one does from morning till evening On BALI PRATIPADA, the whole year goes in similar fashion.

Deepavali is a five day festival starting from Govatsa dwadashi, dhantrayodashi, Narakchaturdashi, Amavasya, BAli Pratipada, yamadwitiya, Bhagini tritiya.
ReplyDeleteOne must do fire crackers all these days to celebrate the LIGHTS of KARTIKA Masa. Newly wed must be treated with Pomp this is expression of Happiness, seeing lord in son in law, brother in law, brother and a sister. This festival teaches us to see LORD in a bramhan Suvasini and worship them. This festival brings out importance of COW and LORD as present in COW. This is the only festival where desire for wealth prosperity opulence is openly expressed and wished for and worshipped as people PEOPLE worship Go Ganga Indra Kubera LAxmi Bali YAma and SATYABHAMA Krishna! Thus one must shun udaaseenata as to why celebrate why noise etc etc, and ENJOY with anusandhan of LORD in every person we see around.
MOXA is all about unabashed HAPPINESS, this festival gives a glimpse of that awareness. Rarely is there a moment where DAUGHTERS and their HUSBAND are treated to max. The word MAX must register in our minds and one must go all out to worship HARI here in bramhna bandhu baandhava mitra sahodara suhradas !
