Rama, Astrology and Hanuman

By Sri Chiraan 2008/10/20

Hanuman was born in Poorvabhadra nakshatra, Meena Rasi, moon sign Pisces. Since this sign is 9th in an angle (kona) to cancer, this shows natural compatibility with Ram. His thoughts matched that of Rama, his actions were acceptable and in accordance with Rama’s plan. Hanuman born in cancer ascendant with Jupiter in ascendant in simhasanamsa, Saturn in devalokamsa, and mars in paravatamsa, indicates limitless longevity, he is still living in Kimpurush Khanda of Bhuloka. Lord Ram dedicated his Roopa to Hanuman to exclusively worship.

Person born in cancer ascendant with Jupiter and moon there, with Venus and mercury in angles enjoy limitless longevity amitaayu. All people with extraordinary longevity are born, when cancer rises and few brilliant combinations. Other ascendants invariably kills man.

Hanuman never faced any death like situation in his entire avatara, even bramhastra also only bound him (that he permitted it). His tail was set afire, did agni (fire) cause him any heat and burn? No. Hanuman was hotter than fire, how ? Lanka was a fire poof city, ordinary fire could not burn it, then Hanuman burnt Lanka. Was it with fire in his tail (no chanc), He burnt it with heat (tejas) emanating from his body. He  killed 85 crore rakshas in ashoka vatika in just an hour. Later he killed 1/3 of the Ravanas’ army. What an assault! Single handily.

When Indrajit used Nagapasha astra, whole of the vanar sena (monkey army) died. Laxmana fell unconscious, Rama too became immovable, closed his eyes, sumanta (brahaspati), jambavanta (immortal) was also immobilized  but were breathing.

Here interesting dialogue takes place between brahaspati and dharma (jambavanta). Brahaspati says "oh elder one, all of us were fooled by this mortal Rama, we all thought he was God and followed HIM to this war, Indrajit has finished the entire army, look Rama is also lying dead. You were wise and elder to all of us, how could you mislead us all into this  misfortune, lying and waiting for death in the battlefield. I say there is no GOD, else how come these Asuras have triumphed today, we supposedly fighting for Dharma (righteousness) have failed miserably."

(Brahaspati is author of the great nyaya shastra ( Logic), which essentially undermines presence of GOD. His comments reflect this atheist conclusion)

Jambavan (represents Dharma) replies "oh learned priest, you are mistaken, my experience cannot betray me, Lord Rama is indeed God, here he might be enacting  some leela. (playful act), just look around and see if anyone is alive."

Brahaspati says "All are dead except Hanuman who seem to be intact",  Jambavan says "then we are all are intact just take shelter in Hanuman, have faith in him, we will be out of troubles."

When these were engaged in fruitless discussion, Hanuman spared no time in flying to Himalayas to bring sanjeevani. Himalayas are two, one beyond Kashmir, uttaranchal, and another bordering BharatKhanda and Kimpurush khanda. Hanuman looks for herbs since they are not visible (these herbs make themselves visible to the needy). Even when God’s army needed these herbs showed arrogance, hence Hanuman uprooted entire mountain,

Now a mountain means an entire ecosystem. There are tribes living on a mountain, animals, trees many inhabitants with their houses, children and flora and fauna. Uprooting it would mean bringing an earthquake like situation, creating chaos and danger to this ecosystem. These living beings on this mountain would be left devastated, uprooting would leave a big hole there on the earth. Did Hanuman disturb this creatures on the mountain?

No, Hanuman executed a lateral blow to the Mountain such that it slided on to his fist without even disturbing a smallest pebble stone on the mountain, the cut left no hole but a clean level playground. Hanuman flew towards Lanka, mountain had four herbs, Sashailikarni, Savrittikarni, Savarnikarni, and Sanjeevani. These herbs acted just by their smell alone, application of herbs was not necessary.

In a war many weapons and missiles are used, some pierce body and break bone and cuts and wounds and some die. If some one injured is treated, his bones may be set, his cuts may be stitched, but still he would look horrible, disfigured and would perhaps prefer death than this ugliness, His mental wounds would never be pacified. So much for a WAR.

These herbs automatically removes pieces of missiles from the body (sashailikarni), sets the bones stronger (savrittikarni), stitches the wounds and brings back normal skin colour and hue (savarnikarni) and if somebody’s dead it brings them back to life (sanjeevani). Hanuman brings all of these (entire army) back to life. Laxmana is also cured. Brahaspati and Jambavan recover. Hanuman does not go back to Himalaya to keep the mountain. He tosses the mountain playfully with his left hand, such that it sits back at its original place more intact than before without disturbing anyone

All this happened in a just three NIMISHA. Nimisha is a time taken by a person to wink his eyelids, even before one could wink thrice, whole army was upright and more charged and waiting to finish Indrajit. What a feat by Hanuman! A mans’ accomplishments earns appreciation only when we know how difficult the task was, how remote was a possibility of the solution, and how perfectly it was executed and how easily it was achieved, speaks volumes of the intelligence, valour, capacity, strength and knowledge of Hanuman.

After this Hanuman garlands Lord Rama with both hands and takes almost 1 1/2 hour to complete this task. (This for him was more serious and important task requiring his greater attention).

Philosophic interpretation of the above incident:   There are times in this world when evil takes over reigns, everything is smashed, even GOD appears to be silent, people with usual and ordinary intellect declare non existence of truth. All can get smashed, but knowledge and Dharma still survives. (jambavan) Hanuman. (devotion, unattachment, divine teachings) always remain intact. We face many such situation in life when there is only gloom and no hopes, God does not seem to help us, we think of HIM as otherwise. There seems to be no solution to our problems. Solution if one exists, it is highly remote (like himalayas) and sometimes unthinkable (like sanjeevani miraculous  does not appear), but instead of arguing about our misfortunes and debating on presence of GOD (like Brahaspati), if we stick to devotion and think of Hanuman (like jambavan), however impossible our state may be, however impossible the recovery may be, he is going to get it for us in just three winks, even before you finish your worship, your sanjeevani is there to rejuvenate you. In this world when we are attacked with evil designs, misfortunes, our state of mind is beyond repair, even if we seek some worldly remedies our state is still disfigured like a wounded soldier in the war.

But think of Hanuman, all your problems are solved. This incident Rama has enacted only to highlight Hanuman. Thinking of God present elsewhere doesn’t help people. Thinking of God as present in Hanuman brings invincible results .

Such is the greatness of Hanuman Jai Hanuman .

    Jai Sri Ram
Shri Chiraan I respectfully salute and acknowledge your views. I have read an incident where Hanuman had defeated Vali single handedly in an open encounter. Vali used to kick Sugrive on his head by a large leap and prevent
his foot landing on the mounten as he was cursed by a rishi that if he sets foot on that mountain he would die. Hanuman saw this and caught Vali and hurled him to another mountain and had a fierce battle with him and later on
let him go. Vali never dared to finger Surgiv again. Only when Sugriv on the
instructions of Lord Ram challanged him then only he came to face Sugriv.
    best regards
    Niraj

    Namaskaram Sitamahalakshmi garu,
Ramavatar though completed , Lord’s roopa as rama is always present[as lOrd does not take birth nor dies] . His roopa is present in Kimpurush Khanda and Hanuman prays him their everday.
everybody attains moksha only after his prarabhda karma is exhausted. Lord hanuman will become Next Brahma in next creation and Moksha is not the purpose of his bhakti. Only humans and other small yogyata jeevis aspire for Moksha . The rujus like Hanuman perform Nishkaam karma as per Lord’s dictum.
Chiranjeevi ….. we are all born with some ayus . and as our deeds are not pure we tend to lose ayus everyday. those who are of pure karma , ayus does not get kshina and hence they autumatically become chiranjeevi.

    Dear Chiraan,
Thank you for this beautiful post. I have personal experience of the power of Lord Hanuman…I live by the Hanuman Chalisa…
I recently read an article about Lord Hanuman having saved the nine planets during the war from the clutches of King Raavana. And as a favor for saving them, the planets blessed Lord Hanuman by saying that any malefic effects of the 9 planets can be averted by praying to Lord Hanuman alone. Do you have any comments on this?
Another question I have is, from my reading of the Ramayana, was not Nagapasha effects removed when Garuda appeared at the behest of Lord Hanuman and had all the snakes removed by Garuda?
Was not Sanjeevani used in the next day of war when Lakshman lay injured by Indrajit?
I apologize if I am stating this wrong.
    Thank you,
    Robert

    Shri Robert
Thank you for posting about your experience .
Hanuman is the highest among dieties and foremost among the devotees of God.Even without boons He still has the powers to mitigate the effects of planets. This must always be borne in the mind. The planets actually offer their subservience to Hanuman by saying they would not trouble his devotees as a mark of respect and obligation and not a boon to Hanuman.
In ramayana the Shri Ram shows himsel as under influence of Indrajit twice. First time it is Garuda who comes and removes Nagapasha . This was primarily because when , All the devatas were choosing their roles in Ramayana near Meru, Garuda expressed his wish to participate to serve Ram.But Garuda does not have a Avatara , God still promises him to give a chance to serve . ONly for this He enacts as affected by Nagpasha.
    Sanjeevani episode is second one.

According to reliable sources, the following can be found
    wrt birth of Hanuman:
1.Hanuman was born on chaitra aShTamI on a Tuesday(North Indian
    belief).
This does not clarify whether it is shukla or krishna
paksha of the month chaitra and these two possibilities
indicate two probable position for Chandra – ARIDRA in
bright half and MOOLA in the dark half of the month.

2.Hanuman was born on margashira krishna trayodashI(South India).
This is clear cut wrt tithi – dark 13th day of the month
margashira and nakshatra as Anuradha/JyeShTha/Moola the
    corresponding star. This view seems to believe in Moola;
This was perhaps the end of 13th day since at Amavasya,
Surya would be in PoorvashaDha and Chandra in MOOLA then
would result in 14th dark and amavasya day.

3.Hanuman was born on amavasya of margashira(Dravidian view).
This looks to be fairly better than case #2 giving MOOLA
    as the birth star precisely.

4.Hanuman was born on chaitra poornima day(Vaishnava view)
This, is clear wrt star – SWATI, rarely the end of CHITTA

Now let us analyse the reason behind the 4 possible stars ie
Aridra, Swati, JyeShTha and Moola, keeping aside the rarer
possibilities of Chitta, Anuradha or PoorvaShaDha.

Aridra – lord of which is Rudra, is a valid janma taara for
Hanuman, who was believed to be born from ‘Rudramsha’.

Swati – lord of which is VAAYU, is much stronger candidate
for the janmataara of Vaayuputra the son of Wind God!

JyeShTha – whose lord is Indra, is a weaker candidate and
might be a valid star due to his strength equal to Indra.
It may also be due to Vajra-deha of Hanuman whose name
‘Hanumaan'(One with swollen cheeks) is due to Indra’s
    Vajra-strike on his face.

Moola – The star indicated in 3 out of 4 cases.
    – The star of the Origin or the seat of Brahma, is the
valid star for Hanuman who is believed to be the
    SECOND BRAHMA.
    – Hanuman had early separation from parents, which is
    an indication of Moola.
    – Thirdly, Dhanu Rashi is the 6th(Servant) from Rama’s
Kataka Rashi and is well related.
    – The first Drekkana of Dhanu corresponding to Moola is
well described for its ‘speed’ and ‘ear rings’, which
beautifully suit with Hanuman’s speed and ear-rings.
(seen only by Rama, at their first meet – Ramayana)

    A SPECIAL POINT:
As soon as he was born, Hanuman, jumped to sky to
swallow the Sun himself mistaking for a fruit. This
incident, along with other factors, seems to describe
a solar eclipse on that day, astronomically. The story
is – Indra hit Hanuman on his mouth with Vajra when
Hanuman tried to swallow the Sun and got the Sun free.
ie Kethu(lord of Moola) tried to capture the Sun and
gave up in presence of Indra(lord of JyeShTha)!!!
To me, it looks like a wonderful explanation of
a partial solar eclipse in Moola, which is next to
JyeShTha. The month was margashira and the day MUST
have been Amavasya for Surya-GrahaNa by Kethu. This
strengthens MOOLA to be his janmataara!! And
    margashira
Amavasya as his birthday. As the time was at Sun rise,
Lagna would be Dhanu, without doubt with Ravi, Chandra
    Kethu there!

Though incomplete, hope you get a glimpse of a part of the
    chart of Hanuman!

And kindly explain how with eighth lord in lagna eclipsed one becomes long lived [ eigth in lagna with ketu and another malefic makes one short lived , exchange of 1 and 8th lord makes one vishnu drohi , especially if eigth lord is with ninth afflicted by ketu one becomes vishnu drohi , atheist . eigth jupiter makes one get averse to good acts . with so many anamolies can this chart be accepted , is there any place for whims . EVery star is auspicious because it is governed by a diety and is the body of Shimshumara rupi hari , so birth in partciular start does not convince the divine personality .

thridly which grantha ascribes 6th for servants , then in that case all servants would become enemies. Sriram had sic=xth house as Dhanu indicating Ravana a bramhin as enemy , exalted in lagna , so a king , how would this explain Hanuman in sixth . rashi. servants and helpers are governed by 3rd. Alternatively , In different eras [ kalpas ] Hanuman has taken birth in different rashis . so it can be reconsiled , but the chart always remains same to give amit ayu.
